Born: 08.22.1912 in Stettin,
Death: in Wasserburg, 11 6th 1995.
1958 to 1963 Professor at the Berlin Academy of Fine Arts from 1964 to 1981 and
Professor at the Munich Academy of Fine arts.
1930-1931 school plant in Szczecin. Early drawings are created, usually with a pen or pencil out in filigree line, show a socially inclination that led him to illustrate relevant issues, including duty novel "Anna", Gorky's "confession" and Brecht's "Threepenny Opera".
1934-1936 he went to Hamburg and worked as a stage, press artist and teacher at a private art school.
1938 moved to Berlin.
Around 1940 he began under the influence of "Metaphysical" and especially the works of Carra, Campigli and de Chirico, fantastic with the painting. The Nazis denounced at the time the current art of Italy not because of the pact with Mussolini.
In 1942 after Hitler's decision to the "Final Solution of the Jewish question" Mac Zimmermann is denounced in Deep and arrested by the Gestapo.
In 1943 he was accused by a special court for contempt of the Government on the grounds he was sorry that the attacks had failed against Hitler in the past. They have acquitted him because the only witness involved in total contradiction. He is occupied with painting ban and excluded from the Reich Chamber of Culture.
Zimmermann is on 13 Mac 1945 January interrogated by the Gestapo, he was accused of having hidden fugitive prisoners of war in his studio. A Luxembourg, who was on the run, gave freely the hiding place. Zimmerman was arrested in Plötzensee. After six weeks in prison, he fled from the fighting in Berlin.
1945, again as a free artistic expression was possible, he came with a convincing, out for themselves standing world of form, which was immediately
recognized.
In 1946 he had his first complete exhibition of Gerd Rosen in Berlin.
1946-1947 teaching at the National Art School in Weimar.
Mac Zimmermann was in the
1948 Venice Biennale, which showed him in
1954 in the great Surrealist special show.
In 1950 he was awarded the Prize of the City of Berlin and was next to Hofer, Schmidt-Rottluff and other founding member of the new "German Association of Artists".
1958 -1963 Zimmermann took a professorship at the Berlin Academy of Fine Arts.
1964 - 1981 Professor at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts.
In 1976 he co-founded the artist group Hans Terwege.
